  BBC Radio Ulster - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
BBC Radio Ulster is a BBC Radio station based in Belfast and is part of BBC Northern Ireland.
It was founded in January 1975, replacing what had been an opt-out of BBC Radio 4 (previously the BBC Home Service).
An opt-out of the station exists in the north-west of the region called BBC Radio Foyle.

BBC Radio Deeside Following the closure of the Shotton Steelworks in February 1980, Radio Deeside was re-established on a more permanent basis as an opt-out service from Radio Wales.
BBC Radio Clwyd In October 1981 Radio Deeside had its transmission area extended, moved to studios in Mold (then later Wrexham) and was renamed Radio Clwyd.
Radio Gwent was available on FM, and since its closure has continued to relay the national Radio Wales service on the same FM frequencies to the Monmouthshire area.

BBC Radio Scotland’s reach fell slightly to 23.4% in quarter one of 2004 (from 23.8% in quarter one of 2003).The journalism review indicated low levels of awareness of BBC Radio Scotland, but very high levels of appreciation among those who did listen – suggesting that more listeners could be attracted by stronger promotion.
Reach of BBC Radio Wales fell slightly to 20.8% in quarter one of 2004 (from 21.8% in quarter one of 2003), but reach of BBC Radio Cymru rose significantly to 8.9% in quarter one of 2004 (from 6.0% in quarter one of 2003).

Though he spent a year on BBC Radio 4, Gerry's returned to his natural home on BBC Radio Ulster.
A daily show here was followed by a transfer to Radio Ulster where he presented the Breakfast show until 1994 as well as occasional programmes for BBC Radios 2 and 4.
In 1994 he was invited to present a daily programme on BBC Radio 4 called ‘Anderson Country’ but this proved to be short lived and in 1995 he was returning to BBC Radio Ulster to present the Morning Show.

With a division between BBC based broadcasting in Northern Ireland and state broadcasting in the Republic of Ireland (run by the Department of Posts and Telegraphs), the Dublin and Cork stations were augmented by a high power station at Athlone operating at 60 kW in 1932.
Radio Eireann remained the callsign until 1966 when the name was changed to RTE Radio (Radio Telefís Éireann) to reflect the new governing authority (established in 1960).
Athlone was reopened in 1979 to carry the RTE Radio 2 service on 612 kHz with a power of 100 kW, but was shut down in April of 2004.

Forty Chroma-Q™ Color Blocks were used for a two-day music extravaganza this summer to round off BBC Radio Ulster's 30th Birthday celebrations.
On the indoor stage thirty Color Blocks were used as colour changers to uplight the opaque stage floor, whilst on the outdoor stage ten were rigged from an upstage flown truss as individual units for colour wash and blinder effects.
The wide variety of music events served to highlight the versatility and diversity of the lighting effects, while their ease of re-configuration proved a hit with LD's Philip Brines and John Gallagher.
