BBC Scotland today (19 Dec 2003) announced that it had submitted planning application to Glasgow City Council for its site at Pacific Quay on the south bank of the River Clyde, Glasgow.
BBC Scotland's Planning submission will now be considered by Glasgow City Council, alongside consultation with public bodies such as the local community councils, the public utility companies and the Council's own Highways Department.
Val Myer's Broadcasting House was enthusiastically received in 1932 and the BBC recognised that its new building had to encapsulate the sense of adventure at the dawn of a new age in broadcasting, and it needed the best architects and artists to achieve that aim in producing this gem of the age.

Until now BBC Scotland has refused to recognise any union for freelance staff making BECTU the first union to achieve this.
BBC Supervisory Official Luke Crawley said: "This is a great step forward that allows us to do something for freelances rates of pay which have not gone up for years.
Although the agreement is with BBC Scotland BECTU sees it as a precedent for organising freelance staff working in other parts of the United Kingdom.

The Broadcasting Council for Scotland (BCS), the body that represents licence fee payers north of the Border, claimed a lack of clarity in the BBC's national news operation over how Scotland is run was undermining BBC Scotland's efforts to make more programmes reflecting the country's distinctive culture.
The report revealed BBC Scotland's income for 2005-6 was £161 million, a drop of more than £8 million on the previous year.
The BBC said this was due to Monarch of the Glen dropping from its usual run of 12 episodes to six for its last series, and the programme Restoration being rested for a year.

Scotland is like a 50 year old that still lives with its mother, while everyone else over the years have moved out got jobs and become succesful (everyone else being nations like Ireland, Norway, Finland etc).

London managers of BBC Scotland have ordered a 25 percent cut in all expenditures, prompting many employees to fear for their jobs, a report says.
The BBC has already reduced its staff by 15 percent through the release of 195 employees, with over a fifth of those coming fro the news and current affairs section, the newspaper said.
They are now cutting into the very bone of BBC Scotland and there is no way that quality can survive intact if this magnitude of cuts goes ahead.

I was amazed to see that this had not been produced by BBC Scotland but that well known bastion of all things nautical BBC Birmingham.
BBC Glasgow receives around £168 million a year to produce local and networked programs and it looks like they are wasting the money, Only one program from them is very good at the moment and that is Still Game.
BBC Wales and NI are popular within their areas yet more people in Scotland now tend to shy away from the BBC Glasgow bias if they have Sky and tend to watch other ITV or BBC regions.

I had a Royal Air Force greatcoat, an embarrassingly straggly beard, long centre-parted hair, and a copy of Jethro Tull's Thick As A Brick carefully kept in a polythene cover.
There were unpleasant things about it that really marred what otherwise might have been a pleasant decade of becoming quite successful in the USA.
Can we talk a little bit about the Aqualung album — Aqualung and Thick As A Brick were both very important albums, again [laughing] in the kind of society that I inhabited in Scotland at the time.
