BBC South East Today is the BBC's regional television news programme for Kent, East Sussex, and parts of West Sussex, Surrey and Essex.
The show was briefly the centre of a minor BBC scandal, after former presenter Laurie Mayer resigned amid accusations of management bullying.
The programme is broadcast live from the Tunbridge Wells newsroom (in the same building as BBC Radio Kent), and there are also studios in Brighton, with permanent contribution circuits from Chatham and Dover.

BBC London includes the BBC London 94.9 FM radio station and the London regional television news service broadcast on BBC One.
The news programming for the combined London and South East region had been BBC Newsroom South East and this was replaced with BBC London News for the London region, an opt-out of BBC South Today for the Oxfordshire region and BBC South East Today for the remaining South East region.

Seen on screen as “BBC LDN”, the tri-media operation was launched on 1st October 2001 and the “TV News” arm of the service featured a striking title sequence that had fl and white images of various aspects of London life with the BBC News trademark rippling sound waves overlaid.
Clearly impressed by the BBC London news titles, the BBC decided that the idea would be rolled out across the English regions (with, so far, the curious exception of South East Today - perhaps not wishing to relaunch after only a year of operation).
In my opinion one of the best is South Today, which has a pleasing variety of shots from around the region of different pastimes and areas.

BBC South East uses the same Acrobats ident as every other region to introduce its regional news.
The desk is evidently not big enough to seat more than one presenter at a time, meaning that for the double-headed pieces towards the end of the programme, the presenters have to perch themselves on stools in front of the newsroom.
South East Today's coverage area is the smallest of all the BBC's regional news programmes (in fact it's even smaller than the area covered by BBC Southern Counties Radio!) and despite the name covers only a small part of the South East.

While STV's Scotland Today is a bit like the TV equivalent of the Glasgow Evening Times for the most part, and the odd story here and there from further afield as though it's just an afterthought.
BBC Scotland's Reporting Scotland wins the day though because they are providing far more news from further afield than STV's Scotland Today's predominatley Glasgow and District news.
BTW on STV's Scotland today, why do the eastern half of the region only have one reporter covering the whole of an area from Kirkcaldy to Edinburgh and from Dunbar to Bathgate, while for Glasgow in the West, there are umpteen different reporters.
