BC Transit is a provincially-owned Crown Corporation providing transit service in more than 50 municipalities in British Columbia, except in the Vancouver Region.
BC Transit Victoria serves Greater Victoria, Sidney and Sooke, with a population of 312,000 using a fleet of 178 buses, including Orion V, New Flyer D40LF, and Dennis Trident buses.

At the beginning of the last decade of the 19th century in Victoria, a transit company, spearheaded by David Williams Higgins, editor of the Victoria 'Colonist' newspaper, was preparing to launch its electric street railway.
In August 1982, the Urban Transit Authority changed its name to BC Transit, and adopted the new red, white and blue color scheme for its vehicles.
The Metro Transit Operating Company continued to operate for two more years until it merged with BC Transit in 1985, completing the consolidation of transit services under one Crown corporation.

In addition to the $3 million for fuel costs, the spending includes $5 million for 27 new buses for communities that have seen significant increases in transit use, $1 million for alternative fuel system partnerships, and $1 million to fund partnerships with vehicle and component technology suppliers to enhance transit efficiency, effectiveness and environmental standards.
This year, base funding for transit services is $49.3 million, an increase of $4.7 million or 10.5 per cent in the past four years.

Transit Victoria's vindictive and heavy-handed approach to all employees that have been charged with a traffic violation for speeding, the company has said by way of a bulletin that any employee that has been charged will on the first offence be suspended, and on a second offence the employee will be dismissed.
Now, I take it from that that the union, at least, was aware that the management was doing virtually everything within its power, short of putting inspectors on every bus, to ensure that their drivers did not speed.
