Telephone Junkie   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
Well I guess BCTel traced down the problem and sent a letter to the house indicating that there was a little problem with the line and they would need to send a team out to have a look.
Finally BCTel decided to change and for many months they ran these commercials with a guy that would knock over the extra "12" before the area code to remind people that we would be like everyone else.
At this time, you actually had to pay an extra $1.35 per month on your line to be able to use touch dialing, otherwise you had to use that nice new phone of yours with rotary dialing (move that switch from the "T" to the "P" position on the bottom of the phone).

BCTel fostered loyalty from their employees AND more importantly from their customers.
The employees were proud of their company and proud of the quality of service and care BCTel provided.
I even found myself siding with BCTel over the union when negotiations came around at contract time.In the few short years since BCTel merged with Telus I have taken calls in my home from hostile customers and found myself being an apologist for their cutbacks and centralizing of services that should never have been centralized.

 COMMUNICATIONS
Although BCTEL had enjoyed a monopolistic history in prior years, the highly competitive Canadian market had resulted in a large percentage of brand-switchers who traveled back and forth between BCTEL, Sprint, and AT&T, depending on what was being offered at the time.
To make matters worse, BCTEL's advertising budget had already been set for the year, and the client had serious concerns about the ability of ads alone to achieve accelerated awareness for the new rate.
So BCTEL charged Toronto-based promotion agency GeneratorIdeaworks with developing a campaign that would demonstrate its new competitive plan, while at the same time generate media excitement that would circulate word about the 14 cents rate.

The Telus workers have lived through privatization, downsizing, outsourcing, deteriorating standards of employment and service, and five years without a contract.
Despite Telus’ promise of a friendly future, very few Albertans or British Columbians would deny missing the good ol’ days before telecommunications were privatized, when AGT, EDTel and BCTel were government owned.
Unlike AGT, EDTel and BCTel which existed to provide telecommunications to western Canada, Telus exists for the personal enrichment of a few CEOs – period.
