Of the 88 blast cases included in the total number screened, 54 or 61% were identified as having sustained a brain injury.
Blast injuries are injuries that result from the complex pressure wave generated by an explosion.
In a blast, brain injuries can also occur by other means such as impact from blast-energized debris, the individual being physically thrown, burns and/or inhalation of gases and vapors.

Gapped BLAST and PSI-BLAST: a new generation of protein database search programs -- Altschul et al. 25 (17): 3389 -- ...   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
The BLAST algorithm is easily generalized to use an arbitrary position-specific score matrix in place of a query sequence and associated substitution matrix.
The reason is that the original BLAST program treats gapped alignments implicitly by locating, in many cases, several distinct HSPs involving the same database sequence, and calculating a statistical assessment of the combined result (21,22).
To compare the performance of the new gapped version of BLAST and its PSI-BLAST extension to that of the Smith-Waterman algorithm (24) and the original ungapped BLAST algorithm, we employed the same 11 query sequences that were used above to investigate the accuracy of PSI-BLAST statistics.

Bright Lights Film Journal | Blast of Silence
But Blast of Silence was a fast, cheap thriller with the requisite amounts of violence and gunplay, and those things could always make a couple of bucks for a studio in the end if the deal was right.
It would be apallingly pat, however — even for those who’ve seen Blast of Silence and know what talents lay within the man — to lament what might be seen as their waste on inferior material in the balance of his career.
The reality is that Blast of Silence, masterpiece though it is, was buried alive by its distributor from the moment of its release and any director, regardless of his or her triumphs, has to do something to pay the bills when their finest work becomes the province of rumor.

BLAST   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
BLAST is an extraordinarily bandwidth-efficient approach to wireless communication which takes advantage of the spatial dimension by transmitting and detecting a number of independent co-channel data streams using multiple, essentially co-located, antennas.
The central paradigm behind BLAST is the exploitation, rather than the mitigation, of multipath effects in order to achieve very high spectral efficiencies (bits/sec/Hz), significantly higher than are possible when multipath is viewed as an adversary rather than an ally.
Using our laboratory testbed, the BLAST team recently demonstrated what we believe to be unprecedented wireless spectral efficiencies, ranging from 20 - 40 bps/Hz.
