At more than seven tonnes, it is too large for a bomber or attack aircraft, and has to be rolled out of the back of a modified Hercules transport.
But the unpredictable effects of the wind, terrain and climate meant that the early fuel-air bombs were more useful for engineering tasks than as weapons.

Unlike the BLU-82 or the Russian weapons, the BLU-118 uses a solid explosive that is detonated without previously having been dispersed and mixed with air, thereby making it a single-stage weapon.
The United States used a two-stage fuel-air explosive weapon, the BLU-82, in Vietnam.
Critics have claimed the bomb qualifies as a weapon of mass destruction because it is designed to detonate in two stages.

Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The MOAB is an Air Force Research Laboratory technology project that began in fiscal year 2002, as a descendant of the BLU-82 "Daisy cutter".
The basic design is similar to that of the BLU-82 Daisy cutter, which was used in the Vietnam War and in Afghanistan, mostly for clearing of rocky or heavily wooded areas.
The utility of the bomb as means of mass extermination is limited and the publicity associated with it may be part of a psyop.
