 BTX Form Factor Exposed - A New Way of Building PC - PCSTATS.com
BTX (Balanced Technology eXtended) is a new personal computer form-factor that has been designed to replace the ATX case and motherboard layouts our computer components are currently built around.
BTX, proposed by Intel and recently ratified, makes some fairly radical changes to case and motherboard design in order to provide increased cooling for the components that need it most: the processor, chipset and video card.
Effectively, the BTX form-factor attempts to standardize case cooling so it can provide a steady flow of fresh air that modern components desperately need, while minimizing the amount of noise necessary to deliver it.

However, Intel is planning a push on retail parts, which could mean that 5% of all DIY builds are BTX by the end of this year.

BTX, in its basic principle design, is very similar to that of ATX, but there are a slew of changes that can and will be utilized to show that it has the potential to improve the system as a whole in terms of acoustics and heat dissipation.
In the case of BTX motherboards, Intel is the biggest financial support for most motherboard manufacturers and they will generally do their best to please Intel, with BTX motherboards being a positive way to make Intel happier and possibly increase their advertising funds as an incentive to bring BTX based products to the market quickly.
BTX will be able to address these concerns without hesitation and offer system builders the opportunity to have higher performance and even smaller systems available to the consumer market.

 TrustedReviews - 2006 — The year of BTX?
The initial idea behind the BTX form factor was that ATX was getting to old to support the thermal dissipation needed for future CPUs from Intel, which were getting larger and producing increasing amounts of heat.
This does not spell the end of BTX however, as Intel is still set on this as the standard for the future.
However, for one reason or another BTX must be the slowest form factor to make it to the retail channel in the history of computers, despite all of its apparent advantages.

 Metku.net :: View topic - ATX or BTX ???
Introduced in September 2003, the BTX form-factor for computer cases and mainboards is developed to succeed the widely-used ATX architecture.
The main idea behind BTX is to optimize the design of mainboard in order to allow more efficient cooling by placing central processing unit, memory controller hub and graphics card in a way that all of them would be blown by the same flow of air.
Even though BTX does bring some interesting capabilities for system builders, mainboard makers do not seem to be really enthusiastic about the first version of technology and are likely to stick to ATX variations this year.
