BWI Rail Station - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The BWI Airport Rail Station is a train station in Linthicum, Maryland located near the Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI).
The small station building, which houses a ticket office, waiting room, and a small concessions area, is dwarfed by the neighboring parking garage, filled by the many local commuters who ride the rails to work in Baltimore or Washington, DC.
The station is served by the Penn Line of the MARC commuter rail system, which operates on Amtrak 's Northeast Corridor rails.

BWI's nomination for the national honor was based on their superb performance over a 12-month period, in 2002 and 2003, when the department responded to an airfield record of 2,726 calls.
BWI is credited with being one of the most powerful economic engines in Maryland, generating $6.5 billion and 85,000 jobs for the state's economy.

The BWI Rail station is close to Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI), though not actually in the terminal itself; a free shuttle bus carries passengers from the station to the terminal every few minutes.
At Union Station, the Washington terminus of all three MARC lines, passengers can transfer to Amtrak Northeast Corridor trains, Virginia Railway Express commuter trains, or to the Washington Metro Red Line.
At both Camden and Penn Stations, the Baltimore termini of the Camden and Penn Lines, passengers can transfer to the MTA Light Rail ; at Penn Station, they can additionally transfer to Amtrak Northeast Corridor trains.

"Train-plane ticketing at BWI is first in U.S."
A proposed monorail would transport air passengers from the BWI rail station to the main terminal.
Beginning in the fall, Newark International Airport will have a monorail connection to a nearby Amtrak station, cutting transit times for passengers heading to New York City.
BWI was chosen as a starting point for the ticket arrangement in part because the airport is among the few that have convenient access to an Amtrak line and a growing number of travelers are using it.

 Competitive T - Overview: Air-Rail Intermodalism
Recently, a new $145 million station was opened by New Jersey Transit along the Northeast corridor line with monorail service to the airport (“Security,” 2002).
Rail travel is consequently becoming a more important means of transportation, particularly on the East Coast.
By linking the airport with this principle rail artery, the airport is easily accessible to anyone between New York and Philadelphia, as well as other cities further north and south along the Northeast Corridor.

BWI AIRPORT, MD (January 30, 2003) – Transportation to Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) was a little easier and less expensive for nearly 17,000 people riding the BWI Express (B30) bus service between the Airport and the Greenbelt Metro rail station in December 2002.

The Trail begins at the Linthicum Light Rail Station, runs past the historic Benson-Hammond House, home of the Anne Arundel County Historical Society, and continues along Aviation Boulevard to the Stewart Avenue Bridge.
