 Nuclear plant work is headed for Indiana - Boston.com
Areva NP Inc. and BWX Technologies Inc., a subsidiary of McDermott International Inc., signed an agreement designed to re-establish commercial nuclear power plant component manufacturing in the United States, and support UniStar's new line of reactors based on Areva's European Pressurized Reactor design.
BWX Technology's nuclear operations division facility, located on the Ohio River in Mount Vernon, Ind., will manufacture the components under the agreement as a subcontractor to Areva.
John A. Fees, president and chief operating officer of BWX Technology, said the plant now employs about 125 workers and the facility could ramp up to five times as many man-hours of work in the future.

In the letter, addressed to John A. Fees, BWX Technologies' chief operating officer at Pantex, the employees said they had decided to speak out because of their concern about public safety.
The letter is being carefully evaluated, said spokespersons for both BWX Technologies and the National Nuclear Security Administration, the Energy Department agency that oversees operations at Pantex, the Savannah River Site and other installations in the country's nuclear weapons program.
In a separate incident reported in 2004, a tool being used to separate parts of a weapon slipped "and the release of energy in the tooling, as it returned to pre-load conditions, created an impact force on the remaining high explosive that was also accompanied by a noise," according to an Energy Department account.
