Attendees that register for this summer's BYOC can bring their computers, monitors and peripherals to the event and connect via Ethernet, to a switched 10/100 Local Area Network (LAN) that can host up to 3,000 computers.

I believe he is organizing the BYOC DoD tournament effort and he likely would accept any help he can get from the community.
The other BYOC tournaments I have seen were a lot of people simply saying "I want to go!" until things were organized all on one site where teams were listed and players could indicate that they had actually registered for the CPL.
I understand that there is a BYOC tournament being hosted for DoD, but BYOC tournaments are entirely community organized.

After years of sustaining an inflexible policy in reference to BYOC registration transfers, the CPL announced today that effective immediately registered BYOC participants of the Pentium 4 Processor Summer 2003 Championship, that are unable to attend the event can now transfer their BYOC registration to another party.
All BYOC transfers must be completed no later than Monday, July 14th, 2003 and must be emailed directly to the CPL Commissioner Frank Nuccio at frank@thecpl.com.
If you are a registered BYOC participant and you are unable to attend the Summer Event please post a message in the Official CPL BYOC Forum, so that others interested in your BYOC spot can contact you.

While the Razer/CPL tournament is focused solely on Quake 3, many gamers in the BYOC area are playing other titles and mods as well.
While it's not out of the ordinary for tournaments to begin their first rounds on Thursday, the majority of BYOC attendees usually start arriving in droves on Friday afternoon.
This time around it was surprising to see the BYOC area almost completely filled by mid-afternoon on Thursday.

I recently learned from www.suavesports.com and general IRC banter that the Enemy Territory BYOC Competition was cancelled because of "lack of participation," as only 5 teams had signed up.
While this seems a perfectly logical thing to do, the timing leaves five ET teams out in the cold with plane tickets and hotel reservations that are now basically worthless, a mere *week* before the competition is slated to take place.
If it is a BYOC tournament, you should be going for more reasons than just a silly tournament that means nothing.

There will not be a dedicated room for BYOC, instead it will be an area in the main room that will house tv's and tables.
Additionally, the BYOC area will not be open on Thursday or Sunday.

The SFU BYOC Lab INF file contains information about a very special kind of "modem", a so-called null-modem, that will trick Windows 95/98 into thinking that a modem is connected, when in fact no modem is present.

Brian "Tapper" Davis: We used a Cisco 6509 switch for the backbone, with 6 48-port blades, a gigabit ethernet blade for the servers, and 200 Linksys workgroup switches.
Rumor has it there was a lan once in Europe somewhere that may have had a little bigger BYOC though.
It's impossible to guess how many folks were there that didn't register through our checkin system, but we had about 1900 in the byoc, and about 4000 general attendees.

 PC Perspective - Quakecon 2004
This picture was taken from my perspective in the very center of the BYOC area, looking towards the vendor area.
Computers go all the way to the wall that you can see in the back of the photo, and that same amount of area also existed behind me. Seeing 4500+ gamers sitting in the dark illuminated by the glow of their monitors definitely has an appeal all its own.
The BYOC floor is also where you need to go if you want to see some of the most creative case mods you have ever seen.

Speaking with our own Brent Justice after the BYOC doors had opened, we found that most gamers had waited upwards of five hours to get their rig through the doors and up and running!

Once the cut-off time for bringing equipment out is reached (sometime at night) then you wouldn't be able to remove a laptop, just like somebody else couldn't bring out their PC or Mac.
Some people have expressed concerns about the security of laptops (since they tend to be a great deal more mobile than towers) and in a situation where you are worrying about your laptop walking away from you please invest in a Kensington lock.
Kensington locks fit into almost all laptops and can be simply tied down to the table when you setup in the BYOC.
