BYU FPGA Lab: New Member Orientation
JHDL was created in 1998 at BYU by EE faculty member Dr. Hutchings and Peter Bellows (the erstwhile student).
It is an innovative approach to HDLs (Hardware Description Languages) in that it attacks the circuit design problem from the point of view of logic elements (gates, flip-flops, wires, etc.) rather than obscure behavioral descriptions as would be found in some other HDLs (reference VHDL, Forge, and others).
It should be mentioned that while this "Quick JHDL Introduction" describes the normal design flow, another very interesting capability of JHDL tools is to perform hardware execution and verification from the very same environment used for circuit simulation.
