The Brigham Young University Jerusalem Center for Near-Eastern Studies is a study center for Brigham Young University situated on Mount Scopus in Jerusalem, Israel.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints finally bought a plot of land on Mount Scopus, and construction for the BYU Jerusalem Center began in 1984.
Eventually this dispute was settled, and the Center opened to students in 1987, and the building was dedicated for Church use in 1989.

 BYU Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies
The Jerusalem Center facilities are located on the northern half of the Mount of Olives, adjacent to the Mt. Scopus campus of Hebrew University.
It is constructed of white Jerusalem limestone and designed with an architectural blend of domes, arches, and straight lines, complemented by flower gardens that feature several species of trees and bushes referred to in the Bible.
In the spirit of accommodation and out of a desire for peaceful interfaith relations, BYU agreed with the government of Israel that the Center would be used exclusively for educational and cultural activities.

Starting this fall, students will have the opportunity once again to attend the BYU Jerusalem Center, to study in the place where the scriptures were written.
The student study abroad program to Jerusalem was suspended in 2001 because of increased danger in visiting historical sites in Israel when conflict was at its worst, said Jim Kearl, assistant to the president for the Jerusalem Center.
BYU worked with government officials of the United States and the State of Israel to evaluate the level of risk for the student study abroad program.
