Another striking building in the northern part of the medina is the Bab Doukkala mosque, founded in the 16th century by Lalla Messaouda, the mother of Sultan Ahmed el Mansour.
The Christian Almoravid militia is said to have admitted the Almohad forces to the city through the Bab Aghmat in the year 1146, the next gateway on the itinerary.
Next comes the Bab er Robb, the "gate of condensed grape juice." It was presumably constructed during the reign of the devout Almohad sultan Yacoub el Mansour (1184-1199).
