According to the legend the old lady was said to have worn either 12 or 9 coats, which she began to remove at the beginning of March, usually with changes in the weather.
The legend also tells us that "Baba Dochia" had three special moments of her own: March, 1 - a time for sowing; March, 2 - dedicated to summer's work;finally March, 3 - representing the harvest in the autumn.
There's another part of the legend concerning the amulet that tells of "Baba Dochia" wandering with her herd through the hills and valleys.

In the Romanian traditions, the first days of the spring are unconceivable without the image of Baba Dochia (Old Lady Dochia), character encountered in many legends, under various versions (most of all, as the mother-in-law or even the daughter of Decebal).
It is said that the old woman was wearing 12 or nine sheepskins, which she has started to take off when the weather was warming up in March, fact that has caused the changing of the weather.
The same myth is also telling that Baba Dochia had experienced three special moment, namely: March 1st - the time dedicated to the spring sowing, March 2nd - the day meant for the summer work, March 3rd representing the fall reaping.

Legendara Dochia a dat nastere si unui obicei foarte raspandit in Romania -“zilele babelor”(1-9 Martie).

So you’re supposed to choose one day (your “baba”) from one of the first nine days of March, known to be traditionally fickle weatherwise, see whether it’s rainy, snowy, windy, or sunny, and expect the rest of the year to be like that for you.
The most common one features Baba Dochia, an old shepherd woman who wore 12 or 9 cojoace (shepherd's coats), which she started to shed one by one at the beginning of March, which caused the aforementioned changes in weather.
There's a mountain formation in the Southern Carpathians called Babele, where supposedly Zalmoxis immortalized Dochia and the sheep she had round her in stone.

A Romanian legend tells a similar story about a woman called Baba Dochia, who left home with her sheep to go up the mountain (something usually done at the end of spring like they do with the reindeers here in Sapmi).
The woman started to leave her coats behind, every day one coat, because she thought the weather was too warm.
