El Babalu has a fully stocked bar with everything from margaritas ($5) to Cosmopolitans ($8) to imported beers such as Negro Modelo ($4), Corona ($3.50) and Tecate ($3.50) and is open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 4:30-9 p.m.
"Babalu is the deity of good fortune and prosperity," says John Jaquez, owner of El Babalu Caribbean Club and Restaurant, 611 W. National Ave., explaining where the name of his Walker's Point establishment originates.

The music video for the song "Babalu Music" is, of course, included.
A "limited edition" home video version of this album was released in 1991, featuring performances by Desi Arnaz of most of the songs...and memorable clips from the I Love Lucy television series.
Since Al is credited as producer of this compilation, some nutball at Columbia who was putting together a CD single of Jim Carrey's performance of "Cuban Pete" from the movie The Mask took that to mean that Al was the original producer on all of the individual tracks, too.

The legendary Cuban vocalist, Miguelito Valdés, came to be known as Mr Babalú because he sang and recorded the song so many times.
The band was renamed the Lecuona Cuban Boys, and under the musical leadership of Oréfiche and trumpeter/guitarist/composer/arranger Ernesto Jaruco Vázquez, they continued to tour Europe extensively with considerable success until the outbreak of World War II.
