Ambedkar was survived by his second wife Savita Ambedkar, born as a Caste Brahmin and converted to Buddhism with him.

Ambedkar stood apart from his eminent contemporaries because he combined in himself the distinction of being a social revolutionary, a statesman, a scholar and a visionary.
The labour policy advocated by Ambedkar sought (i) provision of safeguards and social security measures, (ii) equal opportunity for workers and employers to participate in formulation of labour policy, and (iii) establishment of a machinery for enforcement of labour laws and settlement of disputes.
