Babbler - Facts from the Encyclopedia - Yahoo! Education   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
Babblers have soft, fluffy plumage and vary in coloring; various species resemble other birds, and five of the seven groups of babblers are named on this basis—the wren babblers, the tit babblers, the laughing thrushes, and the crow tits, or parrotbills.
Other groups are called ground babblers, found in Australia; jungle babblers, distributed in the Philippines; and rock fowl, found in W Africa.
Babblers are insectivorous and, as their name suggests, are noisy birds.

 Australo-Papuan babbler - Education - Information - Educational Resources - Encyclopedia - Music
The Pomatostomidae or Australo-Papuan babblers are small to medium-sized birds endemic to Australia-New Guinea.
Babblers live in family groups and small flocks of up to about 20 individuals and forage communally, calling loudly to one another all day long.
For many years, the Australo-Papuan babblers were classified, rather uncertainly, with the Old World babblers (Timaliidae), on the grounds of similar appearance and habits.

 Jungle babbler - Wild India
The Jungle Babbler has been described as "awkward and gawky." While it may lack apparent grace from a physical standpoint, these small birds form a complex and stable society.
Those who do leave at this time are generally female, with male birds staying up to four years (less if a prime male dies in a nearby group) before venturing out on their own.
The world of the Jungle Babbler is an enviable one, in which order is maintained by strong leadership and the bonds between members of the society.

Grey-crowned Babblers inhabit woodlands of mature trees with a scattered understorey and a sparse ground layer.
The main cause of the Grey-crowned Babbler's decline is the clearing of 90% of its habitat for agriculture, leading to significant reductions in total population, decreases in local population size and isolation of groups.
