Babri Mosque - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Babri Mosque was one of the largest mosques in Uttar Pradesh, a state in India with some thirteen million Muslims.
Babri is an important mosque of a distinct style, preserved mainly in architecture, developed after the Delhi Sultanate was established (1192).
The Babri Masjid was a mixture of the local influence and the Western Asian style and examples of this type of mosque are common in India.

The Babri Mosque issue is central to understanding the Hindu militant revivalism and militancy that has left thousands dead in India in the last 50 years.
Babri Masjid is a three-dome mosque structure in Faizabad/Ayodhya which was established in 1526 by Babar.
Almost 40 years later, Babri Masjid resurfaced as a symbol of militant Hindu revivalism, as groups representing this dangerous ideology, which seeks to exclude non-Hindus from the vision of a "Mother India", launched a movement for its restoration.

Ayodhya and After - Chapter 1 - Summary Of The Historical Question
Since the actual practice in the case of the Babri Masjid conforms to this general pattern, we may infer that in all probability the Masjid was built in the same material circumstances in which the pattern normally applied, viz.
In order to save their contention that the Babri Masjid was not built on a Hindu place of worship (let alone a specially sacred place), several Babarwadis have resorted to questioning the validity of the documents attesting the Hindu worship in the Masjid courtyard during the period of Muslim rule.
Thus, in postulating that the Babri Masjid was built on empty land, they implicitly postulate that the Ayodhya people for some reason made an exception to the custom of building something important on the place which by its elevation was the place of honour in their city.

Ram Janmabhoomi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1949, it is claimed that idols of Lord Ram appeared in the Babri Masjid miraculously, allegedly placed there by Hindus.
In 1984, a movement is started for the creation of Ram Janmabhoomi temple in place of Babri Mosque by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and its political arm the Bharatiya Janata Party, under the leqadership of L K Advani.
Mirza Jan wrote in 1856 that “a lofty mosque has been built by badshah Babar” on “the original birthplace of Rama”, so that “where there was a big temple, a big mosque was constructed, and where there was a small temple, a small mosque was constructed”.

A Devious Ayodhya Solution Will Fail
The pervasive presence of animal bones with cut-marks, Muslim glazed ware, and finds with "Arabic inscriptions of holy verses", and the "absence of even a trace of anything" indicating a temple's remains, suggest that the local pre-Babri habitation had a strong Muslim component, according to the social scientists.
"The Babri Masjid structure was superimposed on a pre-existing mosque which was constructed out of stones and plastered over with lime mortar, plastering being an art brought in by Muslims", says Professor Suraj Bhan.

 The Babri Masjid dispute
The Babri Masjid is a mosque in Ayodhya, in the state of Uttar Pradesh in northern India.
In the best medieval traditions, the mosque was built on the foundations of a razed Hindu temple, which is believed to mark the spot of the birth of Rama, hero of the Ramayana, one of -- and the less philosophical of -- the two Hindu epics.
However stupid it may be, the Babri problem will remain a central issue of Indian politics for a long, long time.

 Ayodhya - The Truth
Babar Stayed at Ayodhya: The so-called 'Babri Mosque' was built in 1528 A.D. The Babarnama, Babar's diary of everyday events and autobiography, mentions that on March 28 in the year 1528 Babar came to Ayodhya, called 'Oudh' in those days, and camped on the river-side of a tributary of the Saryu, flowing near the township.
The destruction of Babri structure on Dec. 6, 1992 revealed many archaeological remains which irrefutably prove that Mir Baqi had incorporated parts of the preexisting temple in the construction of the Babri mosque.
Since 1936, the Babri structure was an abandoned building and did not function as a community mosque for local muslims.
