Babyfingers was a release by the avant garde/experimental rock band The Residents in 1977.
As Fingerprince was originally meant to be a three-sided album (a concept abandoned due to expense and Monty Python's Matching Tie and Handkerchief beating them to the punch), much of the material was abandoned.
A second printing was made for members of the W.E.I.R.D. fan club in 1980, and a last pressing, on pink vinyl, in 1981.

The self-created myth has that the album was intended to be the first three-sided release, what probably transpired was that the group had more songs than could be fit on a vinyl LP, so a few years later the remaining tracks were released as the Babyfingers EP (good luck trying to find one).
The instrumentation owes as much a debt to Martin Denny [+]'s exotica as it does to Amadeo Roldan (the modern composer they sampled on their first single).
The Babyfingers tracks follow a similar pattern, with a side of short songs ("Death in Barstow" being the best) and a longer track ("Walter Westinghouse") an experiment in extended, multi-character narrative.

Still in the years of their raw, unflattering sound Fingerprince has it's highs (6 things to a cycle) but somewhat fails to uncover their geniuses to their full glory.
The third side, Babyfingers, contains the very popular 'Walter Westinghouse', always a delight to hear and scratch your head over.
Fingerprince was originally to be a 3-sided album but due to technical difficulties the third side of what would have been the "Tourniquet Of Roses" album was released three years later as the EP "Babyfingers" (see singles).
