According to surveys done by the National Fund for Vietnamese Children, main causes of diseases and deaths for mothers are metrorrhagia, post-birth infection, tetanus, break of uterus, malaria during pregnancy; and those for newly-born children are malaria, tetanus and measles.
Especially in the remote communes of Bac Giang and Thai Binh provinces that are beneficiaries of the project this time, the mortal rate of newly-born child is high because of shortage of guidelines in maternity and access to hospital is difficult.

BAC GIANG — The schoolyard was silent save for the swish of scissors as Ha Thi Linh carefully trimmed the hair of a child with a disability.
In the year since Linh, 23, graduated from the Medicine High School in Bac Giang Province and began working at Bac Giang Children’s Village, she has grown attached to many of the disabled children living there, even though she found teaching them physical and speech exercises difficult at first.
The children were selected from the more than 4,500 children with disabilities in Bac Giang, said the chairwoman of the provincial Committee for Population, Family and Children Nguyen Thi Ha.

The latest Chinese outbreak, discovered on October 26, killed 8,940 chickens and prompted officials to destroy 369,900 other birds in Badaohao, a village in Liaoning province, east of Beijing, the Agriculture Ministry said yesterday.
No human cases have been reported, but authorities have warned that one is inevitable if the country fails to contain outbreaks in chickens and ducks.
In Vietnam, more than 3,000 poultry died or were culled this week in three villages in Bac Giang province, about 60 kilometres northeast of Hanoi, a local official said.

The Italian NGO "Gruppo di Volontariato Civile - GVC", has been operating in Vietnam since 1989 and is presently implementing a project titled "Application of Information Technology in the Field of Health Management in Bac Giang Province", financed by the European Union under the Asi@ITC Programme, due to be completed during April 2006.
Presently, the project has acquired and installed the necessary hardware and networking in five main project locations (Bac Giang General Hospital, Bac Giang Gynecological Hospital, Lang Giang District Hospital, Yen Dung District Hospital and Bac Giang Health Department) and has contracted, to a Vietnamese firm, the development of appropriate open source software.
GVC will provide, for the selected individual, travel expenses (R/T) from Europe to Vietnam, health insurance, accommodations/lodging at GVC headquarters in Bac Giang, necessary travel within project sites and a sum of 400 (four hundred) EURO per month, for the duration of the mission, starting preferably by mid October 2005.
