 Dangerous Strain Of Bird Flu Back In Vietnam
The outbreak in the southern province of Bac Lieu killed many chickens and local officials there had culled 5000 infected chickens at three farms in efforts to contain the virus, an official at the provincial Animal Health Department said.
The reoccurrence of fowl deaths due to flu type A, sub-type H5 in Bac Lieu Province was first detected when over 10 healthy fowlsin a farm suddenly died on June 12.
To contain the disease, Bac Lieu Province culled all of the 3,000 infected chicken.

Another 4,450 chickens were culled in the delta province of Tien Giang last week after bird flu symptoms were spotted in the dead chickens, state-run Lao Dong (Labour) newspaper yesterday quoted the provincial animal health authority as saying.
Bac Lieu had 1.4 million poultry left after the bird flu was declared over in March.

Nguyen Phuc Tai, director of the veterinary department in southern Bac Lieu province, said a flock of some 3,000 chickens had been destroyed after an undisclosed number of birds died suddenly.
More than 44 million poultry died or were slaughtered across Vietnam as a result of the disease, which was detected in 57 of its 64 provinces.
