 Back Street Crawler
Crawler included ex-Beckett vocalist Terry Wilson-Slessor, keyboardist Michael Montgomery, ex-Speedy Keen bassist Terry Wilson and drummer Tony Braunagel.
Their debut as a band was on 1975's "The Band Plays On" LP (Atlantic K50173) but efforts to support the album's release were hampered when Kossoff suffered a major heart attack - he was clinically dead for nearly thirty minutes - brought on by his well-publicised drug addiction.
Following the posthumous release of "Second Street" the remaining band members shortened the group's name to Crawler, recruited ex-If guitarist Geoff Whitehorn and replaced Montgomery with ex-Free member John ‘Rabbit’ Bundrick.

Vernon recruited the band to back pianist Champion Jack Dupree on his new recording entitled “When You Feel the Feeling.” Despite the exposure this brought Black Cat Bones, Kossoff and Kirke soon felt like they had taken the lineup as far as it could go, and began looking for a new group.
Starting in a laid back fashion using a lower register major scale, the intensity builds as he ascends up the neck into repeated blues licks, ending with a long, sustained note.
Back home in England at Island Studios, the group began work on what would become their swan song, the aptly titled “Heartbreaker” album.

Terry Wilson-Slesser could easily be mistaken for Rodgers on so much of this album, be it the song "Jason Blue" or "It's a Long Way to the Top." This material is terrific sleeper stuff for the '70s hard rock genre, before Foreigner made that whole world much slicker.
It is one of those albums that has enormous depth that can't be heard on the first spin or two.
Sounding so much like Bad Company on the same label was no doubt a drawback -- the records showing up in the same section alphabetically at retail bins, their names so closely aligned, the unfortunate big difference for Back Street Crawler was no hit single emerging from this set.
