  EZ Publishing Backend Hosting
Backend hosting is 100% proprietary technology developed by EZ Publishing.
Other solutions rely on third party software, but the Backend Hosting solution software and hardware are both supported by EZ Publishing's technicians, 24 hours a day and seven days a week.
Our automated backend hosting system puts you where you want to be: cultivating your business and profits, instead of cultivating headaches.

 SANE GT68xx Backend Homepage
The gt68xx backend is a SANE backend (driver) designed to support scanners based on the Grandtech GT-6801 and GT-6816 "System-On-Chip" scanner chipsets.
The backend is based on the gt68xx driver written by Sergey Vlasov, Andreas Nowack, and David Stevenson.
When you try the backend, especially with a new or untested scanner, keep your finger at the USB or power connector of your scanner and unplug it if the scanner makes unusual sounds.

 Microtek Backend for SANE
The lastest release of the backend, v.0.12.0, is currently available as a big tar file which can be unpacked on top of the SANE v.1.0.1 sources.
This backend does not support the newest Microtek scanners, such as the V330 and V630 or the new parallel port (yechh) models.
I have no current intentions to write a backend for these scanners (I don't own one), however the documentation is available on-line from ftp.microtek.com.

 Backend Browser Detection
Learn about the mistakes we made when we originally designed our backend and the steps we are taking to correct them.
In our Fixing the Backend article we introduced our plans to rearchitect the backend to use adaptive templates to generate each page.
The most important aspect in creating our adaptive backend is to have robust browser detection.

The CUPS backend interface provides a standard method for sending docu- ment files to different physical interfaces.
Backends must be capable of reading from a filename on the command-line or from the standard input, copying the standard input to a temporary file if required by the physical interface.
PATH The standard execution path for external programs that may be run by the backend.

Ozone OODBMS Backend   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
The database can be run in either a client-server mode enabling multiple applications to connect to and manipulate the data simultaneously, or as an embedded server which runs in the same JVM as the application which accesses and manipulates the data.
Currently this backend implementation does not support transactional updates to topic maps, although this is a planned feature for a future release.
This means that currently the Ozone backend is best suited to applications restricted to a single user, where the size of the topic map exceeds that which can be comfortably managed by the in-memory backend, or where the persistence of every change made without the need to explicitly export the topic map is important.

This page describes the SANE Genesys backend which supports some scanners based on the Genesys Logic GeneScan II GL646USB and the GeneScan III GL841 chipset.
The genesys backend is part of sane-backends since version 1.0.16.
If you use development code you should be subscribed to sane-devel and follow the discussions about the genesys backend.

 HP4200 SANE backend
Welcome to the SANE backend project for the HP4200 flatbed scanner.
Finally there is a functional SANE backend for the HP4200 scanner, but it is still in alpha release.
By default the backend will look at the ``/dev/usbscanner'' device, but you can override this using the ``hp4200.conf'' file at the sane.d config directory.

In case you use Thomas' pap backend, read it's contents (it is basically a shell script, so it can be viewed with any text editor), it has a lot of info about usage and URIs inside.
One caveat: don't use the printer setup from the GNOME panel, it won't let you choose the newly installed pap backend, it only has a fixed set of backends that don't include it.
We have been successfully using Thomas Kaiser's pap backend for over a year now on an Apple ANS running YDL.

The completely new name suggests that it's different from the other scanners, so I have no idea if the Plustek backend will be able to support this scanner.
It seems to be based on a similar design as the Perfection 1260, even though the name suggests that it is similar to the Perfection 1660.
This is the home of the EPSON Sane backend, which is part of the standard SANE distribution.

The Hibernate Backend makes use of the Hibernate O-R mapping tool to manage topic map objects as entries in an RDBMS.
This backend supports transactional updates to the topic map which makes use of the transaction facilities of the underlying database implementation.
This makes this backend highly suitable to web application development where the topic map or topic maps are updated frequently.
