Backlot - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A backlot is an area behind or adjoining a movie studio with permanent exterior sets for outdoor scenes in motion picture and/or television productions.
The shells, or facades, on a studio backlot are usually constructed with three sides and a roof, often missing the back wall and/or one of the side walls.
All the sets on a studio backlot are built so that what looks large or as if it covers miles of ground on the big or small screen, in reality only takes up a few acres of the backlot.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE DOG CATCHES THE CAR
Militant backlot owners had better learn to understand this simple notion—that is, I or any resident of the state of Michigan, or any citizen of the United States for that matter, have just as much right to use public road ends as the backlotter who owns property 100 feet away.
It is curious how many backlot owners (as well as the few judges in the state who have supported their untenable position regarding road ends) have simply refused to address or even acknowledge these issues.
For backlot owners and a handful of judges to assert that road ends at lakes can be used for private purposes such as dockage, boat moorage, picnicking, etc., particularly where no effective local municipal controls are in place, is totally irresponsible.

Additionally, they know full well that their rights to use a narrow public lake access strip are no greater than any other member of the public and that the access must be shared in common with all members of the public.
Yet, many backlot owners around the state of Michigan are attempting to do just that by trying to stake claims to these public properties by installing large private docks and shore stations and also permanently mooring boats and affixing other structures to such public property.
If a backlot owner has to put in or carry in his or her boat in the morning and remove it at night, tough.
