Backyard breeders are, by definition, irresponsibly breeding dogs.
They don't objectively evaluate potential breeding stock by showing them, which is the only way to ensure their dogs are of the highest breeding quality.

If there is some compelling reason that when you visit a backyard breeder's home, and their dogs all look happy and healthy, including the mother dog, that you should NOT purchase a puppy from them, will someone tell me? (as long as you are not planning to breed or show)
Breeding should ONLY be done if BOTH dogs are breed standard and have had all the neccessary checks...hips, eyes, etc. We shelled out $300 to have Kika's hips certified before we bred.
I think breeding should be left to the professionals even though it costs more....doesn't mean I'll be able to AFFORD a "professional bred dog", though.

There are backyard breeders who perpetuate faults such as breeding for oversized/undersized dogs, disqualifying colors etc. Backyard breeders do not sell their dogs on spay/neuter contracts with limited registration.
If a breeder is breeding pet quality dogs or dogs that could not be successful in conformation and/or other dog related events, which is how breeding dogs are evaluated, that means they aren't breeding to the breed standard.

Breeding dogs and raising puppies is an art and there should be a law against 'backyard' breeding, along with puppy mills.
Please, for the health of your female dog and her puppies, as well as your own sanity, do your homework and do a lot of research on breeding before you even allow your female to become pregnant.

A backyard breeder's only question to you would be "Got the money?" You can get a dog from them and breed it to death for all they care.

If their two hamsters are from the same place, there's a very high chance they're related, and thus your friend is inbreeding, which is cruel and irresponsible.
Your neighbors need to separate their hamsters and cease their backyard, irresponsible breeding before any real damage is done.
I'm sorry if this sounds "rude", but I have little tolerance or patience for irresponsible breeding no matter who's doing it or what their reasons are.

What irks me about cat breeding is that it's just for looks, and certainly the cat doesn't care if it has a smushed nose.
A lot of states have laws defining breeding and such, but often times these laws are not strongly enforced.
Responsible breeders do just fine at preventing breeding even though their animals are not S/N. S/N is a good common practice especially for animals not intended for breeding.

Coaxed by fellow backyard breeders of the Chinese Shar-Pei and an infamous veterinarian, I bought other sellable breeds from of course, fellow backyard breeders of Chow Chows, Toy Poodles, Pekingeses, Neapolitan Mastiff, Boxers and German Shepherds.
