Powell and Moraes' songwriting focused on strong melodies that Powell would inventively improvise upon pulling the songs into more expansive jazzier framework (which is well demonstrated on their excellent compilation record Os Afro-Sambas).
Powell and Moraes ended their partnership amicably in the late 60s and Powell spent much of the next 30 years living in Europe working primarily as a solo artist and session player.
