I think the problem is that Badminton Canada named the team prematurely and without authority - in all sports COA names the team and in all sports there are always athletes who make their sport's standards but not the COA standard.
Perhaps as a rather new sport in the Olympics, we don't quite get the selection process yet and that COA is in charge - check other countries as well and you will see that top badminton teams have been ruled ineligible by their Olympic Associations.
Until badminton canada actually becomes a proper governing body for this sport and all the atheletes respect one another we are in big trouble.

I have been away from the badminton scenary for a long time, but I still remember in the early 90's, badminton in Toronto is very affordable.
Badminton is a great game the way it is! There is no need to change the game, none at all.
