Hundreds of adivasis from villages all over the area are sitting in peaceful dharna at Limbi since the 20th of September to protest the illegal arrests and asking for a stop to the illegal mining and the violation of the PESA rules regarding their rights in the Gram Sabha.
The Jan Sangharsh Morcha demands the immediate release of those in jail, suspension of Badwani SDM and full judicial enquiry into the matter of the violation of PESA and other laws by the administration and the dubious circumstances of the adivasi's arrests.
Garsiya had informed the Collector Badwani on the 4th of September 2003, that this mining was done without his permission and without any due process of law such as land acquisition.

The Supreme Court today issued notice to the Madhya Pradesh Government and others on an application seeking a direction to rehabilitate about 150 families affected by the raising of the height of the Sardar Sarovar Dam from the present level of 100 metres (plus three metres of hump).
A three-Judge Bench, comprising the Chief Justice V. Khare, Justice K. Balakrishnan and Justice S.B. Sinha, issued the notice on the application from Ratansingh Ranchoda and 22 other tribal farmers of the village Picchodi in Badwani district of the State.
The application, filed on a pending writ petition by the Narmada Bachao Andolan, stated that the village which was about to get submerged due to the raising of the dam height had not been rehabilitated so far.

All the riparian States, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, must rehabilitate people six months before raising the height.
Reacting to the incident, the Narmada Bachao Andolan leader, Medha Patkar, said from Badwani, Madhya Pradesh, that "while in no way the NBA condones the attempt to commit suicide, it brings to public attention the grave injustice and destitution faced by the dam-affected people in Gujarat.
Even in the original villages of Mukhdi, Hapeshwar, Gader etc., 300 families remain, not to talk of thousands of families displaced by canal, colonies and livelihoods affected downstream and in the catchment area."
