 Explorers: February 2006
Most people referred to Baffin as "the pilot of Patience", which was actually a vessel he took a voyage on with James Hall on the way to Greenland.
Then during his second expedition, Baffin headed in a northwesterly direction directly through Davis Strait, which led him to what would later be called Baffin Bay, as well as Baffin Island on the northeast shore.
Unfortunately, Baffin's great discover of "Baffin Bay" was discredited until 1818 at which time Sir John Ross confirmed his observations and discovery.

But the Eskimos were in no mood for friendship; they captured five Englishmen and their longboat, leaving Frobisher with only thirteen men.
The next Englishman to try the passage, John Davis, was a scientist rather than a freebooter like Frobisher, or a noble like Gilbert.

 "Simulating Sects"
The interplay of individual choices, where unorganized segregation is concerned, is a complex system with collective results that bear no close relation to the individual’s intent.
Even in this extremely crude little world, knowing individuals’ intent does not allow you to foresee the social outcome, and knowing the social outcome does not give you an accurate picture of individuals’ intent.
For example, perhaps non-religion is attractive because people like to go to the beach on Sunday.
