BAGGAO, Cagayan -- The search for the missing 400-year-old original ivory replica of the image of Our Lady of Piat has ended in the rustic village of San Jose in this town, some 60 km from the capital of Tuguegarao City.
Constancio Floria, the priest assigned in the village, the image was traced to the ancestral house of the late Cagayan Archbishop Teodulfo Domingo.
Neyra, in his lecture during the Aggao nac Cagayan celebrations in June, said the missing ivory image, which had a lighter skin tone, was a replacement for the original dark-skinned image done in papier-mache almost 400 years ago.

ILAGAN, Isabela - The Department of Health (DOH) in Cagayan Valley has intensified its monitoring of three towns in three provinces that have been regularly recorded with malaria victims.
Regional Director Purita Danga, the department’s director for Cagayan Valley, said malaria is endemic in the towns of Nagtipunan in Quirino, Alfonso Castaneda in Nueva Vizcaya, and Baggao in Cagayan.
All three towns are located in largely forested areas likely to become breeding places of the anopheles mosquitoes.
