While the province hasn't witnessed the outright fighting in the last few years that has affected provinces like Helmand, there is a constant low level of tribal violence accompanied by criminal and Taliban activity.

 Truckloads of coal seized in Baghlan
BAGHLAN, June 2 (SANA): Security officials in the northern Baghlan province Wednesday seized a huge quantity of coal destined for illegal transportation to the neighbouring Kunduz province.
Mohammad Mukhtar, a Baghlan police official, told Pajhwok Afghan News 18 truckloads of illegally excavated coal in Nahrin district was ready for transportation to Kunduz.
Jan Aqa, an engineer in the Baghlan coal factory, alleged local commanders in Nahrin and Ashpushta districts were involved in illegal coal mining and smuggling.

The weapons were stored in Bashgah, a remote village in Baghlan province, 75 miles north of the capital, Kabul, Interior Ministry spokesman Latfullah Mashal said.
Mashal said the cache was hidden in a bunker under the house of a warlord and former government militia commander named Jalal Bashgah, apparently to conceal the weapons from a U.N.-sponsored disarmament drive.

Henk Vaags, spokesman for the civil-military team in Baghlan told Pajhwok Afghan News about their drills featuring tanks, missiles and jets in the expansive Karkar desert, 15 kilometers northeast of Pul-i-Khumri, would continue until elections slated for mid-September.
Vaags added: "Though the security situation in Baghlan is satisfactory, yet we should be on red alert to tackle violent incidents." He would not say as to how many troops of the 150-member Dutch team were participating in the war games.
The PRT team in the province is operating under NATO, which is currently leading a multinational peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan.

KHOST, Afghanistan, May 3 (UNHCR) – More than 1,000 internally displaced Afghans have returned to their home areas from south-eastern Khost province in a series of convoys organised by the UN refugee agency and its partners in a nationwide effort to boost stability in Afghanistan.
Over the last 25 years, repeated waves of Afghans have passed through Khost province while escaping the fighting and drought that ravaged their homeland for the security of neighbouring Pakistan.
When she and her family heard that their home in Baghlan province had been destroyed during the civil war and that the prospects for a sustainable return were weak, they opted to stay in Khost, where her husband found work as a cook.

Reports received indicate that an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated on the main road connecting Baghlan to Kunduz, in the vicinity of Tarakhail area, Baghlan-e-Jadid district center.
The IED was possibly placed in a bicycle that was placed at the roadside which subsequently was detonated when an Afghan National Police (ANP) vehicle was passing the area.
The Baghlan - Kunduz main road is considered as an insecure/ problematic road due to the presence of alleged anti-government elements in the area.
