Bagism is a term which was created by John Lennon and Yoko Ono as part of their extensive peace campaign in the late 1960s.
The intent of bagism was to satirize prejudice and stereotyping.
Yoko said that bagism was inspired by the theme of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's The Little Prince, which was "One sees rightly only with the heart, the essential is invisible to the eyes." She hoped that the bag, by hiding her and John's physical appearance, would make their essence or the essence of their message visible.

Bagism in the sense of racism, sexism, heightism: ie, unfair, indiscriminate prejudice against people who, for whatever reason, chooset o while away weekends and holidays by "bagging" classified groups of hills, be they Munros, Corbetts, Marilyns or whatever.
Bagism as "bagging" behaviour per se, whereby fleecy-jacketed, Ronhill-betrousered, crazy-eyed zealots, either singly or in bunches, forsake - for Shug's sake - valuable hours of life routemarching up dreich dumplings whilst lining the OS and SMC coffers by forever replacing supersaturated maps and books.
Bagism as classical Murdo Munro behaviour, whereby peak, plateau, pass or whatever is entirely subservient to the night being spent alone, in the pouring rain, out on some blasted heath in a "bivvybag".

In “Give Peace a Chance,” John Lennon sang about a mysterious philosophy called “Bagism.” Now, most of the hipsters of the ‘60s generation were aware of John’s flamboyant nature and his weirded-out sense of humor.
As it turned out, John and Yoko did have an explanation for “Bagism.” And they shared it with a nationwide audience on the David Frost Show on June 14, 1969.
As charming and irreverent as ever, Lennon began the interview by giving Frost a “box of smile,” which turned out to be nothing more than a box with a mirror in the bottom.

His and Yoko’s famous Montreal “Bed In” is just one of the examples of protest that Lennon and Ono used to get the world media to pay attention to the issues of war and racism.
They also protested against “Bagism” which was a word invented by John and Yoko concerning the discrimination against those who chose to live alternative lives in conformist societies.
It is the act of a community or society functioning as a group of diverse individuals, where no discrimination or hatred would be felt for anyone in the group.
