The Bah‡`’ World, Vol. 18, Part Five: In Memoriam
Bah‡`’ life, but for the history books let me state that she was born on 8 December 1907 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the fourth of twelve children of Herman and Elsie (Lyman) Bremer.
During her stay in Santos Leonora began her prodigious and historic task of translating Bah‡`’ literature into Portuguese; at first it was a simple pamphlet to distribute at her talks--often typed over and over on her small portable typewriter--later, as her skills developed, an intense outpouring of the major works of the Faith.
The Bah‡`’s were subjected to a series of arrests, trials and sentences of imprisonment, notably in 1965, 1967 and 1972, and Subh’ played his full part in these events.

It is, however, self-evident that help should be provided according to the BaH Constitution, the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and BaH laws, a viewpoint that the US authorities no doubt do not at all question but fully respect.
To the extent that BaH authorities have provided help without respecting this framework, their handling is not only illegal, illegitimate and shameful but also most unwise not to say quite simply foolish.
- It is likewise quite understandable - and commendable - that BaH authorities are doing their best to provide such help.

Historical Context of the Bábi and Bahá'í Faiths 1
He "manifests" His will to humanity through the series of messengers whom Bahá'ís call "Manifestations of God." The purpose of the Manifestation is to provide perfect guidance not only for the spiritual progress of the individual believer, but also to mold society as a whole.
Bahá'ís believe that Abraham, Moses, Zoroaster, Buddha, Krishna, Jesus, and Muhammad are all equally authentic messengers of one God.
It was out of this tradition that the Bahá'í religion and its forerunner, the Bábi Faith, appeared in the mid-nineteenth century.

The Animating Purpose of Bah·'Ì Institutions And now, it behooves us to reflect on the animating purpose and the primary functions of these divinely-established institutions, the sacred character and the universal efficacy of which can be demonstrated only by the spirit they diffuse and the work they actually achieve.
