	Bajo Cinca / Baix Cinca - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Bajo Cinca (Catalan: Baix Cinca, Aragonese: Zinca Baxa) is an Aragonese comarca in the south-east extreme of the Huesca province in Spain.
		Its capital is Fraga and it borders La Litera/La Llitera, Cinca Medio, Monegros and Bajo Aragón-Caspe/Baix Aragó-Casp in Aragon and Segrià and Ribera d'Ebre in Catalonia.
		It belongs to the Catalan-speaking strip in eastern Aragon which is variously known as La Franja.

		The area lies on the fertile plains of the Cinca and is surrounded by the calcareous monegrino flatlands, the Menorías flatlands and the Cardiel flatlands.
		It is remote and isolated on a hilltop overlooking the river and the new Mequinenza which has taken the place of the old village which has been under the waters of the reservoir since1971.

		La comarca del Baix Cinca es troba al límit occidental del Principat de Catalunya.
		El Baix Cinca fou inclòs, a partir del segle XI, a la taifa de Lleida, i des de la conquesta catalana (el 1149) de Fraga i de Mequinensa pel comte Ramon Berenguer IV de Barcelona va ser incorporat al bisbat de Lleida.
		El darrer intent d’incorporar les comarques frontereres —Baix Cinca, Llitera i Ribagorça— a Lleida el va fer Napoleó Bonaparte en dividir el Principat de Catalunya en quatre departaments amb les seves prefectures; un d’aquests era el departament de les Boques de l’Ebre, amb Lleida per capital (1812).

		Modern denomination of a belt of Catalan territory at the western boundary of the Principality wich, after the temporary administrative partition of the province carried out in 1822 —and also in al the later ones— was included in the Aragonese provinces Huesca, Saragossa and Teruel.
		The bishoprics of Aragon repeatedly claimed the right over the jurisdiction of the areas included in Franja de Ponent; such claims were partially accomplished in 1995 when the Vatican ordered that 111 the parishes belonging to the diocese of Lleida were transferred to the diocese of Barbastre and were completed in 1998.
		These transfers demanded by both the civil and the ecclesiastic authorities of Aragon were not generally welcome and have so far been causing clash of interests, such as property rights claimed over some art works like those of the monastery of Sixena which were recently sold to the Generalitat de Catalunya.

		Gobierno de Aragón y el Consejo Comarcal del Bajo Cinca/Baix Cinca presentaron ayer jueves, el libro “Comarca del Bajo Cinca”, el número 14 de la Colección Territorio que edita la DGA, y que se dedica a las treinta y tres comarcas aragonesas.
