John Haire was was born in Baker County, Georgia, and was enrolled as "John Hair" as a private in Company A of the 29th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, in Bainbridge, Georgia, on 15 July 1864.
Since my great great grandfather John Haire, moved from Gadsden County Florida to Decatur (now Grady) County, Georgia, in about 1886, died there in 1896, and never moved to Texas, I was able to determine that this John Haire who served in the 29th Georgia Cavalry Battalion was not my great great grandfather.
Apparently his brother, John Hair, my 2-great grandfather who appeared as a second poll tax paid by Jesse for a free male in Baker County in 1845 for "J. Hair", was resident on the same land when he was missed in the 1850 census.
