		This temple used to hold a golden image of Shiva.

		This makes a perfect sense to me. And combined with further known fact that this king Kaundanya's direct descendents[ kings of Funan] claimed for themselves Moon lineage as per Baksei Inscriptions....hence this so called Kaundanya, the founder of Funan Hindu kingdom in Indo-China, to all probability, was from some 'Kshatrya' rather than a 'Brahmana' family.
