The temple of Kshirachora Gopinatha that stands here at a distance of about eight miles from Balasore district,is a modern one;but the image of Gopinatha is certainly much older than the time of Srichaitanya who visited it as evidenced by the Gaudiya Vaisnav literature.The deity had originally no image of Radha associated with it.
Badagaon is small village situated 5 miles from Bhanjanagar of the Ganjam district.
The fine execution of the temple with its superb proportion and exquisite finish of the scluptures and other decorations indicate a resurgent movement linked up probably with the advent of the Somavamsi dynasty.

In 1986, the Indian government decided to build the National Test Range (NTR) at Baliapal in Orissa's Balasore district and announced plans for a range covering 160 square kilometers, necessitating the evacuation of nearly 100,000 villagers from 130 villages.
Pending the completion of the new test site, DRDO decided to build an interim facility adjacent to the Proof Experimental Establishment, Chandipur, in Orissa's Balasore district.
The new range was expected to become operational by 1990.

Balasore district is mostly known for cultivation of paddy and rice is the primary food of people.
Balasore was an early trading port for British, French and Dutch ships in the early age of Enlightenment.
It is now a launch station for sounding rockets on the east coast of India in Orissa state at 21°18' N and 86°36' E. Balasore has been in use since 1989, but unlike Sriharikota, it is not used for launching satellites.

Days after Balasore police arrested a few truck drivers on charges of diverting rice meant for the food-for-work programme to West Bengal, legislators in the Orissa Assembly today demanded action against Mayurbhanj collector C.T.M. Suguna and another senior official for their alleged involvement in the racket.
Balasore has emerged as a haven for rice smugglers in the recent past.

The Balasore region is very close to me and Chandipur was my theatre of action for nearly two decades, when I was in DRDO.
Similarly, Fakir Mohan University can select and adopt a cluster of villages near Balasore on the sea coast and give a plan action for development to the Government or corporate houses.

 Interim Test Range, Orissa - Special Weapons Facilities
The Balasore district authority organized the temporary evacuation of the people residing in four villages close to the range for facilitating launching of the Prithvi missile.
For launching missiles, rockets and flight test vehicles, a dedicated range known as Interim Test Range (ITR) was established in 1989 at Chandipur-On-Sea, 15 km from Balasore, Orissa.
In preparation for such tests, nearly 1000 people residing in Jayadev Kasaba, Kushumali, Bhimpur, and Sahajanpur villages [none of these placenames are recognized by the NIMA GEOnet Names Server], located within a one-kilometer radius of the launching pad, would be evacuated.
