Bald Hills's history has been compiled by local historian, Mary Howell as a part of the BRISbites community history project.
When Thomas Gray, a successful boot maker in Brisbane, recommended the BaldHills area to John Stewart and his brothers-in-law Charles and David Duncan, he also wrote to Captain Wickham requesting a deployment of mounted police to protect the newcomers.
The BaldHills Primary School, established in June 1866, was only the fourth school to open in Queensland.
European settlement in BaldHills has a very early history — the area was settled by Europeans as early as the 1850s.
Also the BaldHills Primary School was actually the fourth school to have opened in Queensland, so it dates back to 1866, so very early, and of course those early settlers were instrumental in encouraging the establishment of the school.”
A cattle track developed by John Carseldine from BaldHills to Kedron Brook was on much the same line as the present Gympie Road.
