It is a tributary to the Tellico River.
The forests of the Bald River basin and the Tellico River basin were almost completely logged by the Babcock Lumber Company during the early 20th century, from their local base of operation at Tellico Plains.

The river "flats" of the Chilkat River along the Haines Highway between miles 18 and 24 are the main viewing area for eagle watchers and considered critical habitat in the preserve.

After a pause to observe and take pictures of the always beautiful Bald River Falls, we did the short steep climb to the picnic area above the falls where we were unpleasently surprised by the presence of large volumes of trash in torn plastic bags scattered about.
The Bald River was, as usual, pristine and clear tumbling over the many cascades and runs that mark its course.
Most hikers were ready for a refreshing dip in the Bald River when we arrived back at the picnic area at the trailhead.
