 Re: Lets have some fun
Nemacheilus species include scaturigina, notostigma and botia, (incidentialy Dave you might find the "banded mountain loach" acanthocobitis urophthalmus photo at fishbase.org intresting, as it would seem this is a synonym/valid name for nemacheilus botia according to the link of synonyms and explains the common name you encountered).
To the best of my ability I identified three of my four balitoridae loaches as beaufortia kweichowensis, gastromyzon punctulatus and hemimyzon myersi.

Loaches Online - Hillstream Loaches: The Specialists at Life in the Fast Lane
In this article I have attempted to include as much as possible in order that anyone contemplating the keeping of the Balitoridae family of fish, often called Hillstream Loaches can better understand their requirements and my own solution to keeping them successfully.
The fish referred to as "Hillstream Loaches" come under the Family Balitoridae.
All these fish have varying adaptation of form from what might be termed the "classic" fish shape in order to cope with living in fast water.

Zoo-geographical distribution and the status of coldwater fish in Nepal. (by K.J. Rajbanshi)
The cold waters of hill region have fish fauna rich in species and numbers, while the waters of the mountain region (Inner-Himalaya) have a poorer fish fauna due to low water temperature and fast current which may be torretial in places.
In the cold waters of the mountain region Schizothorax and Schizothoraichthys are the dominant fish, followed by Glyptothorax, and the small loaches of Balitoridae group.
The family Cyprinidae dominates with 46 species, followed by the family Sisoridae with 13 species and the family Balitoridae with 6 species.

Freshwater Fish, Loach, Loaches, Thorn-eyes, Botia, Cobitidae; Hillstream Loaches: Balitoridae
There are a number of similarities found in both the Loaches and their close relatives the Hillstream Loaches Balitoridae, such as multiple barbels around the mouth.
Though there have been some reported successes among various hobbyists, these fish are not yet commercially bred.

Planet Catfish Forums - View topic - Asian catfish/loach tank.
I'd go for a loach-only tank, add a nice powerhead indeed, and stack up some Balitoridae loaches, like the ones already mentioned.
If you keep them in groups (they're social, and territorial disputes lead into great displays, at least with Gastromyzon and the like) that tank should contain enough fish.
So the only options would be clowns, kuhlis, glass, and those Balitoridae loaches.
