The band was formed in 1966 in San Diego and released their debut album, Heavy, in 1968.
The 17-minute "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida", the title track of their second album, became a huge hit that spent over a year in the Top Ten.
The next album, Ball, was less successful, and more lineup changes followed.

This album is widely regarded as being the first progressive rock album ever, or at least the first that showed the various stylistic tendencies of the then fractured movement in a definitive and musically overwhelming whole.
The rest of the album is a dark, profound work that positively drips with almighty mellotron and a generally melancholy tone.
As a whole, the album is clearly modeled after the first, but for obvious reasons it is not the standard bearer that the first was.

This album gives a full sample of their work, ranging from the subtly-woven complexity of their instrumentals to the mind-croggling hallucinations of their rock&roll.
Some of the songs on this album are real masterpieces both lyrically and melodically (partially, I suspect, because of the Fariñas' reliance on traditional modal tunes), and this makes the album a real breath of fresh air.
The album has on it a host of some of the finest assisting musicians around: Bruce Langhorne on guitar and tambourine, John Hammond on harp, Charles Small on piano and celesta, Alvin Rogers on drums, and those two omnipresent bass players, Felix Pappalardi and Russ Savakus.

While the album seems to have all the right ingredients, it does drop the ball at points, as some of the solos tend to meander a little longer than they need to, and the accented vocals can become pretty irritating.
Considered by many to be the watershed album of Eno's career, Another Green World straddles the line between the glam art-rock of his pervious solo albums, his stint with Roxy Music, and the stripped down, obliquely minimalist instrumentals that would mark the beginning of his descent into ambient territory.
ISOT is a concept album that uses alien abduction as an allegory for loneliness and dislocation.

As on the previous two albums, producer Teo Macero's studio manipulations of the recording done by the musicians is a major part of the album.
The album is known for the track "He Loved Him Madly", a tribute to Duke Ellington that inspired Brian Eno's ambient experiments.
Their first album, Mwandishi was fairly straight-ahead free jazz, but the next two, Crossings and Sextant, incorporated the Moog synthesizer work of Dr Patrick Gleeson, and the combination of the band's ambient spacieness, Hancock's Fender Rhodes, and the Moog make these essential listening for anyone interested in the roots of electronica.

The first of four albums that just flat out rocked, Aerosmith used very little high tech recording strategy, but rather gutted it out in a wonderful raw and unaltered form for the 1973 debut.
Listen to this album and I think you'll agree that Ian Anderson and company were a truly remarkable 'one of a kind' sounding group.

Strictly adhering to the "three take" rule and recorded and mastered on used media, this album is one of those no-fi rock masterpieces that makes you want to kick the shit out of your dad, just to prove you're a badass.

The Cyrkle had two big hits in 1966--"Red Rubber Ball" and "Turn Down Day"--both of which fell into the lightweight, easygoing pop/rock vein and remain radio staples to this day.
"Red Rubber Ball" was indeed a Paul Simon song, originally recorded by Paul and Art in their "Tom And Jerry" phase.
It was good to see some tracks on this that were not on the original two albums.
