 Lorry drivers fined at Ballaghaderreen District Court 03-05-02
Ballaghaderreen District Court was a busy place for three lorry drivers recently who were prosecuted on behalf of the Minister for Public Enterprise for breaches of regulations, and fined by Judge Mary Fahy.
Jimmy Grady, Magheraboy, Kilmovee, Ballaghaderreen was fined 250 euro, on October 11th, for being the driver of a vehicle and using the record sheet to cover a period for longer than which it was intended.
Oliver Kennedy, Banada, Kilmovee, Ballaghaderreen was fined 200 euro for being the driver of a vehicle on November 2nd, 2000 and not having a tachograph chart inserted in the tachograph head.

 Local Buildings Past and Present
In 1812 the head of the family, Luke Dillon, finding that he was unable to pay the fine for the renewal of his land lease which had fallen due moved with his family into Ballaghaderreen.
This prospered and in time became a substantial business which for generations to come was to play an important part in the life of the Dillon family but also in the development of the town of Ballaghaderreen itself.
Another consequence of the move to Ballaghaderreen was the birth there in 1814 of the town’s most widely know native son, for in that year was born in their new home in Main Street, Luke Dillon’s younger son, John Blake Dillon.

I have received some inquiries about grant assistance for the provision of a swimming pool at Ballaghaderreen on behalf of the Ballaghaderreen Swimming Pool Committee but no formal application has been submitted so far.
Having regard to the limited capital funding available for the provision and refurbishment of swimming pools, and the number of projects currently before my Department awaiting approval, it would be some considerable time before I would be in a position to give a decision on any such application.
