This most enjoyable village atmosphere is what we have become to love and expect from this most delightful area on Scotland's Royal Deeside.Both resident and visitor alike naturally expect the village to be a pleasant and safe place for all to enjoy which for the most part is what is experienced.
Unfortunately, even tranquil Ballater has it's problems with generally minor instances of crime and antisocial behaviour similar to those experienced by most other towns and villages in the UK.

When we left Edinburgh we wanted to head north to Ballater towards the Castle Trail, which is a sign-posted trail that goes by a number of castles (hence the name, 'Castle Trail').
We continued on towards Ballater, driving alongside and eventually crossing the River Dee, which was pretty cool to see.
We made it to Ballater, which is a pretty small town, and stayed at this B and B. Nice place, and as was the case everywhere we stayed, nice people.

A small resort town in the Royal Deeside parish of Glenmuick, Tullich and Glengairn, W Aberdeenshire, Ballater lies on the River Dee 43 miles (69 km) west of Aberdeen.
Ballater remained the western terminus of the Deeside Railway until it closed in 1966 and the station regularly received royal parties en route to Balmoral Castle.
The Pass of Ballater to the north of the town is an ice-worn ravine linking Milton of Tullich in the east to Bridge of Gairn.
