Dame Marie Rambert 1888–1982, a founder of the English ballet, b.
In 1920 she opened her own school in London; her Ballet Rambert became the first permanent school and company in England when, in 1930, she founded the Ballet Club at the Mercury Theatre.
Rambert discovered and fostered the talents of many great dancers and major choreographers, including Frederick Ashton and Antony Tudor.

The court ballet reached its peak during the reign (1643-1715) of Louis XIV, whose title the Sun King was derived from a role he danced in a ballet.
Many of the ballets presented at his court were created by the Italian-French composer Jean Baptiste Lully and the French choreographer Pierre Beauchamp, who is said to have defined the five positions of the feet.

In 1919 he went to England to attend Dover College and then to study under the famous Leonine Massine and established a working relationship with the ballet troupe belonging to Marie Rambert and Ninette de Valois.
Rambert discovered Frederick's aptitude for choreography and allowed him to choreograph his first ballet, "The Tragedy of Fashion" in 1926, starting a tremendously successful career as a choreographer.
He began his career with the Ballet Rambert which was originally called The Ballet Club.
