Local sports club, Ballinamallard United FC, has recently helped the Sports Council for Northern Ireland (a Lottery Good Cause Distributor) to celebrate the 10th Birthday of the National Lottery, in the form of an Olympic style torch run across Northern Ireland.
Ballinamallard United FC is just one of many sports facilities who have received funding from the Sports Council’s Lottery Fund, which has now distributed nearly £60 million to sports facilities across Northern Ireland.
Ballinamallard United received 3 awards totalling nearly £160,000 from the Sports Council Lottery Fund for the development of the main pitch, floodlighting at the facility and the provision of changing facilities at the club.

Ballinamallard United Boys topped Group 3 with Carndale Juniors ‘A’ coming in second to book a place in the quarter-finals while Ballinamallard Youth clinched first place in the last group with eventual winners Killen Rangers Youth ‘A’ in second place.
Lisbellaw United Youth ‘A’ also progressed through to the semifinal with a 2-0 win over Carndale Juniors ‘A’ with goals by Matthew Woods and Gary Kettyles while Ballina-mallard United Boys had a tight 2-1 win over Enniskillen Town Colts ‘B’.
The sides had met in the group stages with Ballinamallard coming out 2-0 winners and they looked to be on their way to a final place when Adam Baxter scored to put them ahead.

Ballinamallard United are the only Irish League club in County Fermanagh, which is probably a good thing considering how far Fermanagh is away from the promised land of Ballymena.
To say that Ballinamallard is in the arse-end of no-where would be a bit of an understatement, as it poses the question of industrialisation having ever reached this small town.
There is about a 95% chance that you will get wrote off if you go to Ballinamallard as it's just a complete day-out for any football supporter, as it takes most teams in the league the guts of an hour to get there.

Hence, the crux of the matter from the point of view of the BKYL is that when Ballinamallard are playing in the mid Ulster league they have, in the past, asked players from outside their club to ‘guest’ in their team so as to strengthen that team.
Harshly put, the BKYL believe Ballinamallard are abusing their position and quite simply are using the mid-Ulster league to poach players from other clubs.
Middle ground between the two warring factions, Ballinamallard United and the BKYL, would seem to be diminishing fast and the consequences for local youth football could be far ranging.

The organisers were disappointed with the small entry in Class A and the non-appearance of six of the 16 teams in Class B, but despite the difficulties the staff at the Bawnacre (for providing complimentary medals) and the referees earned the praise of parents and team managers.
In the quarter-finals four Ballinamallard teams returned on the Saturday morning to do battle with the Ballinamallard United side, which did not play any games on the Friday because of sides not appearing, going out 4-1 to Ballinamallard Youth.
Ballinamallard looked very impressive coming from behind against the Red Devils to win 3-1 while tempo Town eased their way to the final with a 4-0 win against Ballinamallard Youth.
