BALLYMORE, or BALLYMORE-EUSTACE, a market-town and parish, in the barony of UPPER-CROSS, county of DUBLIN, and province of LEINSTER, 18 miles (S. W.) from Dublin city; containing 2085 inhabitants, of which number, 841 are in the town.
The parish is the head of a lordship and manor belonging to the Archbishop of Dublin, and comprising the parishes of Ballymore, Ballybought, Cotlandstown, Yagoe, Tipperkevin, and Tubber, in the county of Dublin, and of Milltown and Tornant, and part of Rathsallagh, in the county of Wicklow.
Mount-Cashell Lodge, the property of the Earl of Mount-Cashell, is pleasantly situated, and is in the occupation of Mr.

Ballymore Eustace is a town in County Kildare in Ireland, near the border with County Wicklow.
Ballymore Eustace in the 13th century - at the time simply known as Ballymore - was the site of a castle, which in 1244 was granted an eight day fair to be held on site by Henry III.
The upkeep of the castle was given to Thomas Fitzoliver FitzEustace in 1373, whose family name came to be associated with the town, lending it its present name.

Ballymore Eustace were thrown out of the Kildare intermediate championship following their failure to turn up for a play off match against Grange on September 2nd.
Ballymore appealed the decision to Leinster Council, who agreed with the club, but this was overturned by the Central Council and now the DRA have been called in to sort the matter.

It was in the year 1373 that the name Eustace first became associated with Ballymore when Thomas Fitzoliver Fitzeustace was appointed constable of the castle with a salary of £10.00.The conditions were that he should reside there and guard and keep the castle.
Such a site invariably had water-driven mills.In the case of Ballymore Eustace, there is documented evidence of such a mill as far back as the mediaeval times.
At the time of the Bianconi mail coaches, circa 1870 Ballymore Eustace had no less than five hotels and twenty one public houses.

You may well ask me, 'why all this lugubrious talk of death?' Well, apart from the TV pictures of hundreds of carcasses being incinerated still fresh in my mind, death made its appearance a couple of times on the night my wife and I went to Ballymore Eustace in Kildare.
We'd been told on the phone that the restaurant itself wasn't open, but that the restaurant menu was available in the bar.
It seems the Eustace family enjoyed the link with Dublin and fought successfully to keep it.

This quiet town, pleasantly situated in hilly ground beside the Liffey, is named from the Eustace family, one of whom was constable there in the 14th century.
In the churchyard of St. John's church are two monolithic granite crosses, one of which is decorated with circles and bosses in deep relief and with an inscription dated 1689, which is believed to be a later addition.
Another Eustace monument is in the ruined medieval church of St James at Coghlanstown, 3km west of Ballymore Eustace.

At the Treatment Works concrete was used extensively in the construction of settling tanks, pumphouses, etc. Many of the buildings also used Forticrete Concrete Masonry bedded with Trowel Ready Mortar.
