Continuing along the Balonne Highway towards Cunnamulla, I was hoping to find a track or four-wheel-drivable countryside to get me a bit closer to the confluence.
Unfortunately I couldn’t find either, so I was left with a 1.85 kilometre walk from the highway to the confluence.

The Treasurer made the announcement at the opening of the Morven Rural Transaction Centre in Queensland, where the Landsborough and Warrego Highways are among 34 regional highways (see attached list) with little or no terrestrial coverage to be funded under the $50.5 million Regional Mobile Phone Program.
Roads like the Snowy Mountains Highway and the Great Ocean Road have large volumes of tourist traffic, while other roads such as the Stuart Highway in the Northern Territory and the Barkly Highway in Queensland cover some very remote areas.
Mobile phone coverage is also being improved on more than 9000kms of national highways as part of the Commonwealth Government's $25 million Mobile Phones on Highways program with Vodafone, with coverage under the program expected to be completed by the end of 2002.

Australian Towns, Cities & Highways: St George
St George, a remote south-western Queensland town - is located at the junction of the Carnarvon and Balonne Highways and set on the banks of the Balonne River.
While all town entrances to the town are impressive, as is the river frontage to the Balonne River, St George itself appears a little disorganised with much of its CBD spread through several streets.
Also lacking was the general lack of services for the motorist - strange considering the town is close to several highways and considerably remote.
