		Balranald, is a town and local government area (see Balranald Shire Council) in the Riverina district of New South Wales, Australia.
		The town of Balranald is located where the Sturt Highway crosses the Murrumbidgee River in a remote, semi-desert area.
		The first public telephone service in Balranald was installed in 1911. The Balranald Municipal Council underwent financial difficulties, and in 1912 the NSW Government appointed a Receiver to take charge of affairs. The difficulties seem to have been overcome by the following year.

		Interest in organic meat production is increasing with hundreds of graziers at an organic livestock conference in Balranald in the state's south west this week.
		Almost 300 people made the trip to Balranald, many were farmers already involved in the organics industry and many others were thinking about making the conversion from conventional agriculture.
		There was a particular focus at Balranald on marketing organic lamb and apparantly there are premiums on offer, but the product has to be spot on and David Booth says that can be difficult to supply in the middle of a drought.

		Balranald shire has produced an excellent access road guide with numbered/signposted points of interest for what they call the “Mungo Loop”, Balranald-Mungo-Euston-Balranald which we decided to do in reverse.
		The road to Balranald was about 150kms of which 100kms is dirt.
		We travelled at a steady 70km/hr, there were a few sandy bits but it was pretty good.
