Rail Baltica, Via Baltica projects still far beyond the horizon
Furthermore, the Via Baltica project is nowhere near as radical as it seems.
The Via Baltica plan covers over 200 kilometers of road in Latvia, and our total annual budget from the state is about 50 million lats.
While the Via Baltica is based on an existing road network and can thus be implemented piecemeal, Rail Baltica would require construction from scratch, with all the cost and risk that entails.

 Palaeos Earth: Geography: Baltica
Baltica was one of a number of continental blocks that broke away from the supercontinent Rodinia, but refused to get involved in the whole Gondwana thing (the others non-conformists being Laurentia, Siberia, and Kazakh).
During the Ordovician, Baltica and Siberia drifted toward Laurentia (Baltica drifting mostly west), creating a loose collection of large land masses separated by shallow coastal seas.
The Devonian meeting of the continents Laurentia and Baltica to form Euramerica (or Laurussia) caused the Acadian / Caledonide Orogeny (mountain building period), with the usual belching of volcanos, messy climate changes, etc. that generally accompany this sort of collision.

Kremarata Baltica Chamber Orchestra - Contact Us   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-28)
Contrasted with a traditional orchestra that is anchored in one city, works together everyday and tours occasionally, Kremerata Baltica’s raison d’être is international touring, which it does five to six times per year, including one tour in the Baltic States.
While half of the members of the orchestra are already working musicians, the other half are currently completing their studies, yet they all share the same work ethic within the orchestra: resolutely professional.
Kremerata Baltica's programs have boasted a number of unusual works, notably transcriptions of known works performed in an unconventional manner and seemingly incongruous pairings of composers (for example, Vivaldi and Piazzola).

It was a nice idea: Kremer would gather the best young string players of the Baltic region into a chamber orchestra and take them on tour.
Kremer's presence was as strong as if he were wielding the baton — this was clearly one man's interpretation of the work, faithfully realized by the young musicians.
Seen in this light, it is evident that KREMERATA BALTICA is not a chamber-music group in the conventional sense.
